Sammy Christie dies

Tragic passing of dance music legend

Words: Ben Murphy

The dance music community was saddened recently to learn of the death of Sammy Christie - club promoter, label owner and founder of banner specialists Bannerama. He died in his sleep after suffering breathing difficulties, on 17th April. He was 44.

A major contributor to dance music culture, Christie's Bannerama created banners for raves, festivals and club events since the late '80s, operating at World Dance, Glastonbury and many more. Bannerama also produced many banners for Kiss, Radio 1 and DJmag.
In addition, Christie was instrumental in launching legendary early-'90s London club nights Base at Dungeons, and Jaberwoky at Limelight.
In 2000, Christie started Dance Wicked Records, which released cuts from heavyweights like Blaze and Ambrosia, and also began the successful Dance Wicked parties, which lit up London clubs The End, Ocean and Fabric.
In 2003 he moved to Grenada with his wife Jackie and two children, where he lived until his untimely passing. He'll be sorely missed.
